Echoes of Elysium revealed as airship survival RPG from ex-Mythic, BioWare devs

I wanna flyyyy SKY HIIIIIGH!

When your trailer opens with “from the creators of Dark Age of Camelot, Warhammer Online, Star Wars: The Old Republic, and Fallout 4,” you know you’ve got a team with some real pedigree behind it. That’s how we’ve been introduced to Echoes of Elysium, an airship survival RPG that serves as the first effort from Loric Games.

Echoes of Elysium is an open-world game that invites both solo and cooperative exploration. Players will be tasked with building a fleet of airships, taking on enemies in the sky, and essentially just trying their best to survive with an airship as the main base of operations. Those survival efforts extend beyond the deck of the ship. There are regions to visit throughout the procedurally-generated world, resources to gather and craft, and enemies along the way that have the souls of lost Elysians as their power source.

The teaser below is just that, delivering a very brief taste of the adventurous vibe behind it.

After acquiring BioWare in 2007, EA merged the studio with Mythic in 2009 and promoted BioWare co-founder Ray Muzyka to Senior Vice President/Group General Manager. Flash forward through a few typically tumultuous video game industry cycles to the formation of a newly independent group of devs who, having since splintered off in various directions, are coming together to “bring rich storytelling to online survival RPGs.”

The Arlington, Virginia-based Loric Games was established in 2022, with Mythic Entertainment veterans Brian Johnson, Ray Soto, and Rob Dentonā€”who was also Mythic’s co-founderā€”as its founding members. In January 2024, Loric managed to raise an additional $4 million in its latest funding round thanks to support from Hiro Capital. At the same time, the studio also announced the addition of Jeff Hickman, another industry veteran and former Mythic employee, as Chief Production Officer.

There are still a lot of questions in the air about Echoes of Elysium. It’s just listed for PC at the moment ā€” a Steam page is live ā€” and there’s no date in place. We also haven’t seen much beyond screenshots and that short teaser. Hopefully, we’ll see more soon for a better idea of what Loric Games is putting forth as its inaugural calling card.Ā
