Latest Apex Legends update is resetting player account progression, Respawn is investigating

Players don't recognize their accounts anymore.

Update (4/3/2024): Since this article was published, Respawn Entertainment has provided a fix for the bug causing progression loss. The official Apex Legends Twitter confirmed that a fix has been issued that will prevent the progression loss bug from occurring for any players who log in after downloading the latest update. However, this doesn’t fix the issue of lost progression for those who logged in yesterday and discovered they’d had hundreds of levels and cosmetics removed from their accounts.

Respawn Entertainment is still working on a fix for this issue and asks players to hold on while it figures out how to restore the lost content. That appears to be the developer’s intention, but it hasn’t managed to get this fix together just yet. There’s no timeline on when the fix will be available, but at least we know it’s still being worked on. Given how quickly the latest patch was issued, I’d say pretty much everyone who is able to work on the fix is doing so right now worldwide.

(Original article): Today’s update for Apex Legends has led to reports of players’ Ranks and overall account progression getting rolled back, deleting hard-earned cosmetics in the process.

An update that was released earlier today for Apex Legends, and what seems like a fairly minor update at that, has caused widespread issues within the community. Players are logging in to find Badges, Ranks, heirlooms, cosmetics, and levels of progression in the current Battle Pass missing. What they’re greeted by is a prompt for cross-progression, which is only adding to the confusion for players who only use a single platform.

Some players have lost at least half of their Apex Legends progress in a single day

Following an update today, Apex Legends players are livid because they’re logging in to find cosmetics and progression missing. There seems to be no restriction on what can be affected because I’ve seen players reporting all sorts of resets. A common one is account levels being cut by a significant amount, 300 levels in some cases, but also Battle Pass progression being reset back to Rank 0 from wherever a player was in it for this season.

The biggest losses that I’ve seen are Heirlooms and Badges. These are earned by completing collection sets during events, the Battle Pass for a season, or reaching the top Rank in ranked mode. They’re time-limited and can’t be earned once an event or season ends. Even Badges that were only available during ALGS events have been removed, which is understandably heartbreaking for dedicated Apex Legends fans.

Respawn Entertainment is aware of the issues affecting players and has issued a statement that it’s looking into what has happened. From the reports I’ve seen among players, the problem seems to be linked to cross-progression. Every player reporting a loss of progress and account level or cosmetics has also received a prompt to enable cross-progression, even those who have only ever played on one platform.

Cross-progression is actually one of the reasons this issue is so alarming for players. The prompt players must go through to enable cross-progression and pick an account to merge should port all their previous progress over to the platform they’re using, provided they already merged their main account. Even this isn’t working, though, indicating that there’s a deeper issue somewhere, but we just don’t know what it is.

I’m keeping an eye on the official Apex Legends Twitter account for updates on the situation, but we’re two hours past the problem being acknowledged and fast approaching the end of the working day for most regions, so it might persist until tomorrow.
