Hollow Knight: Silksong

A Hollow Knight: Silksong listing has appeared on the Xbox store

Don't bug out just yet.

Hollow Knight fans have been patiently waiting for its sequel — or not, depending on who you ask — since it was first teased in 2019. Now a listing for Hollow Knight: Silksong has appeared on the Xbox Store, and while that might not mean anything Earth-shattering, we’ll take what we can get.

This follows similar storefront listings on Steam and the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation stores, so at the very least, it appears Team Cherry is getting all of its ducks (bugs?) in a row. The latest sliver of hope didn’t come with any additional information, so we’re still waiting on a proper release date for Silksong

Silksong‘s appearance on the Xbox store is at the very least a nice reminder that the sequel will be available to Game Pass subscribers on Day 1, whenever that may be. Here’s the Game Pass reveal trailer from — rubs eyes wearily — June 2022.

Scurrying back to the shadows

There are a number of things that have been holding Hollow Knight: Silksong up since its initial announcement. As detailed last May, when Silksong was moved out of its Early 2023 release window, the scale has simply ballooned during development. Team Cherry PR and marketing rep Matthew Griffin said it had “gotten quite big” at the time, and they wanted to take their time to ensure the quality matches that scale.

No matter how long it takes, it’s clear Hollow Knight fans are insatiably hungry. Even coder Jack Vine simply liking a tweet suggesting that moving the game to a non-Unity engine could add another five years to its development garnered a ton of attention. I get it. Five years is a long time to wait for something you’re really looking forward to, right? Thankfully, there’s an embarrassment of Metroidvania riches out there right now to tide you over in the meantime.
