Like with many other materials you gather in Lightyear Frontier, Coal is a necessary resource to find and farm. It allows you to power the Furnace, a construct necessary for crafting glass and metal bars.
To find Coal in Lightyear Frontier, you must first complete the mission ‘Restore Pine Heights’. Doing so will unlock several Coal nodes in the biome, making it the best spot to farm the stuff early in your game.
Coal can be farmed at Pine Heights in Lightyear Frontier
Coal can be found rather early in Lightyear Frontier over at the Pine Heights biome. It’s nestled snugly between both Pine Heights and The Meadow, where you first begin your adventures. Of course, you will have to clear out Pine Heights beforehand. All biomes in the game, save for The Meadow, must be cleaned of corruption before resources spawn.
Pine Heights has Noxious Weeds and Slime to wipe up, but afterward, you have full access to its resources. You will need to sleep at least once, mind. To harvest Coal, use the Saw Spike to pound it out of the ground.
Coal Nodes can be found in the crevasse that also contains Aluminum Nodes. Check out the below map for the location of Coal in Pine Heights:
What can you make with Coal in Lightyear Frontier?
Harvesting Coal for the first time in Lightyear Frontier awards you with many new recipes. Here are some you earn right away:
- Clear Glass
- Red Glass
- Yellow Glass
- Blue Glass
- Iron Bar
- Steel Bar
- Light Bulb
- Fractalite Bar
But how does Coal become glass? Glad you asked! Coal is needed to fuel a construct called a Furnace. You can get a Furnace by gathering Clay, explained in this guide. Once you’ve built your Furnace, use it to combine Coal with various materials to create new items such as colored glass.
