How to add friends on Tekken 8

There's no such thing as FT3 in friendlies.

Fighting games are always better when you play with friends. However, with cross-play being a thing now, there can be complications. In the case of Tekken 8, that is slightly the case, so here’s how to add friends in the game.

How to add friends on Tekken 8

This guide is mostly for people to add friends in-game, from other platforms, as a “Tekken 8 friend.” If you plan on playing with friends on the same platform as you, it’s all straightforward. To add friends on other platforms, follow these steps:

  1. In the main menu, select Tekken Fight Lounge.
  2. Coordinate with your friend(s) and pick the “Select from region” option.
  3. Ensure that cross-play is on.
    • If cross-play is not on, the game will say “Not for Cross-Platform Play.”
  4. Join the same lobby.
  5. When you are in the lobby, press the “Lounge Menu” button.
  6. Click on “Community”.
  7. Select “Players in the Lounge”.
  8. Find your friend(s).
  9. Select “Tekken 8 Friend Request”
  10. On your friends’ end, they have to select the Community option and check their notifications.

You can also create a private online match and use a passcode, so only your friends can join. Then, simply navigate to their profiles and do the same friend request you’d do if you were in a Tekken Fight Lounge. Sadly, there doesn’t seem to be a friend code option available to make adding cross-platform friends any easier at this time.

Once you have successfully added each other in-game, you can now go into the Player Match section in the Main Menu and invite each other to lobbies. If you want to skip the confusing avatar portion of the game, follow these steps:

  1. In the Main Menu, head over to the Online tab and select “Player Match”.
  2. Create a session and set your own parameters, like private slots and so forth.
  3. Once your lobby section is created, press the “Sub-Menu” button and select “Invite Friend”.
  4. If you followed the steps above correctly, your Tekken 8 friend(s) should appear. This can only be selectable if you have cross-play enabled.

With that out of the way, you can now play with your friends despite what platform you’re on. Just make sure that there aren’t any network issues plaguing the game or from either one of your ends.
