How to get Leather in Palworld

Well, tan my hide.

Palworld is a survival game, so you’re going to spend dozens of hours collecting materials for tools and equipment. One such material is Leather, which can be very useful when it comes to fighting alongside your Pals in Palworld.

Some captured Pals in Palworld have Partner Skills you can activate. There are skills that can deal damage, while others let you ride your Pal as a mount (depending on the Pal type, of course). Early on, the resource that lets this happen is, you guessed it, Leather. But how do you find the material?

What drops Leather in Palworld?

Obviously, Leather doesn’t drop from trees. Like with many organic materials, you need to gather Leather in Palworld by taking it from the bodies of defeated Pals. Not every Pal drops leather, however. Some offer other materials, such as Wool, for example. You can check and see what kind of materials the creatures can drop by opening up your Paldeck and looking at the Pal’s ‘Possible Drops’ section:

Be sure to press the 3 key on your keyboard to display the Pal’s Habitat, which shows their location on the map.

Here’s a short list of Pals that drop leather in Palworld:

  • Foxparks
  • Fuack (also good for gathering Pal Fluid)
  • Rushoar
  • Fuddler
  • Direhowl

Pals drop materials on death or capture. Most Pals that drop Leather will usually award one piece at a time. If you’re looking for the easiest Pal to find and hunt for Leather, I suggest the Foxparks. Use a bow from a distance and a partner Pal with the water element.

What is Leather used for?

As mentioned, Leather is used to craft items that allow you to use Partner Skills. Using a Pal Gear Workbench, you can build things like saddles for mountable Pals, or a harness to turn your Foxparks into a freakin’ flamethrower:

There are two things you need to do before you can use a Pal in this way, though. First, you need to capture a Pal that has a Partner Skill. Next, you must unlock their skill item via the Technology tree. Once that’s complete, craft the Pal Gear at the Pal Gear Workbench and hold the F key (on PC) to activate the skill while out in the world.
