Traveling around Eorzea can sometimes feel like an endless journey, but there’s a way to make it faster. Here’s how to increase your mount speed and where to get those all-important riding maps in every expansion.
Every mount in the game, with the exception of the SDS Fenrir, has the same base speed when you get it. The only way to increase this speed is to complete quests or source Riding Maps.
It’s worth noting that this speed increase only applies to ground speed and flying speed remains unchanged regardless of which Riding Maps you own.
Checking your current mount speed
Within Final Fantasy XIV, open up the Travel menu and select “Mount Speed” or type the “/mountspeed” command into the chat box.
Here, you’ll be able to click through every area in the game. If your mount speed is as fast as it can be, all of the stars next to an area’s name will be filled in. These stars correspond to ‘Enhancement levels’ and if you have an empty star, that means you can increase your mount speed in that area.
A Realm Reborn, Heavensward and Stormblood areas have two Enhancement levels, while Shadowbringers and Endwalker areas have only one Enhancement level.
