How to get the Dusk Form Lycanroc in Pokemon Go

Gotta catch 'em all!

With the launch of the Pokémon GO Lustrous Odyssey event on January 6, 2024, players can now get their hands on Dusk Form Lycanroc, but it’s not as straightforward as it seems. So how do you get your hands on, arguably, the strongest form of Lycanroc?

To get the brown, quadruped Midday Form of Lycanroc, you evolve your Rockruff using 50 Rockruff Candy at any time during the day

To get the red, biped Midnight Form of Lycanroc, simply evolve your Rockruff using 50 Rockruff Candy at any time during the night

Before you evolve your Rockruff, you can check the silhouette within the evolve button to see what you’ll end up with.

In short, you need to have a Rockruff in your arsenal which has been caught or hatched after January 6 2024, although it’s not guaranteed that this Rockruff will evolve into Dusk Form Lycanroc. Unfortunately, this does mean that if you’ve been saving a particularly powerful Rockruff to become a Dusk Form Lycanroc, it is ineligible.

Here are some of the ways you can potentially get an eligible Rockruff:

  • Hatching 2km or 7km eggs during the Lustroud Odyssey event
  • Completing raid encounters
  • Adventure Sync reward eggs

After that, this turns into a game of luck, because there are essentially two types of Rockruffs – those who evolve into Dusk Form Lycanroc and those who don’t. To tell if you have an eligible Rockruff, all you have to do is check the Evolve button. If there is a sunset symbol alongside the needed Candy, you’ve got yourself a Dusk Form Lycanroc waiting to be evolved.

Once you’ve established that your Rockruff will evolve into Dusk Form Lycanroc, you need to wait until dusk – that’s around sunset in your time zone – in order to evolve it.

These Rockruff will only evolve into Dusk Form Pokemon, so if you’re chasing either a Midday or Midnight Form Lycanroc, you’ll need to get another Rockruff.
