In the final part of this walkthrough for this long chapter, Saga finally enters the overlap and has a boss fight.
It isn’t immediately obvious how you come out of this one successfully, but this guide will show how to complete Return 3: Local Girl and defeat the deputies in Alan Wake 2.
How to solve the float puzzle in Alan Wake 2
At this point, you should be in the Kavela Knights workshop. In the break room, there’s a fuse on the table. Grab it. Before leaving, pet the deer at the back of the workshop. Destroy the light covering the entrance using your flashlight to leave when you’re ready.
Next up is the float puzzle. You’ll find the float right outside the workshop, and there’s a manuscript there. To complete the float, you need to collect three items, and you’ll find out what they are by investigating the float, collecting four clues, and piecing them together in Saga’s Mind Place.
To discover where these items are, head to the table near the float, and read the document there. You need the following four items for the float:
- Knife
- Mask
- Cassette
- Circuit board
First up, the moose mask. You can find it by Huotari Well, which is marked on your map and is just outside the gates of the workshop. Next up, you need the use the fuse you found in the break room to turn on the Espresso Express ride.
Once the ride is on, head up the stairs to find the control panel for the amusement ride. There’s a gap you can enter to find the circuit board. Turn it on, then stop it when it’s in the right position to leave the gap you need open. It’ll take a little trial and error.
When you’ve got the gap accessible, jump down, follow the path, and you’ll find the circuit board at the end. Once, you’ve grabbed it, the ride will turn on by itself, which forces you to take the second crawlspace there instead of the one you arrived through. Once you’re on the other side, you’ll find a manuscript page on the floor.
Let’s get the knife next. It’s located in the gift shop you visited earlier. On your way there, you’ll run into some Taken so have your weapons ready. In the gift shop, you’ll find the knife easily by the wall holding the foam fingers.
On your way back to the float, you can grab the cassette you need as well. It’s at the Fair Trade Fun Zone, behind a cardboard cutout mascot. It’s not hard to find, as you just need to follow the sound it makes. Now you’re ready to return to the float, but you should expect some Taken to bother you on your way there.
Place the pieces you’ve acquired in the float and you’ll finally have the overlap open, which you’ll access at Huotari Well.
How to defeat the deputies in Alan Wake 2
Enter the well and follow the path that will eventually lead you to a log cabin. Enter it, grab the manuscript on the table, and then exit. To your left, you’ll find a wooden path taking you through the woods. In defiance of logic, you’ll find yourself looped back to the well you started at.
Jump back down the well, follow the path again, and you’ll wind up back at the well. Don’t worry, you’re still making progress. On your third loop, you will be back at the well, but when you try to enter, it’ll fill up with blood. Yuck. Instead, head for the wall that’s opened behind the well.
Going in this direction will lead you to yet another loop. Follow Athi’s music. You’ll once again find yourself back at the well, but with two Taken to bother you. Kill them, and enter the well for your last loop.
On the last loop, you’ll find a manuscript on the table next to the lodge. Grab it, continue going forward, following Athi’s music, and along the way you’ll find a cooler box of ammo to help you with the boss battle you’re about to encounter.
Continue walking the path and you’ll wind up back at the well. There are two deputies there, but they’re Taken and intent on killing you. Sometimes, they’ll attack you from the ground, and other times they’ll stand above and attempt to strike you from above.
There’s no use trying to kill the deputies at first because they’ll just respawn. Don’t waste your ammo. Instead, search the perimeters looking for spots of darkness to burn off. You’ll need to burn them all to prevent the deputies from respawning. The deputies will be attacking you while you do this, but I’d advise you to rely on dodging far more than killing them.
Once you’ve got all the dark spots on the perimeters burned off, you’ll have one more hanging above the well. Now that they’re all gone, take out the deputies once and for all. This will trigger a scene with Alan Wake, and Saga will finally have the Clicker.
That’s the end of this lengthy chapter, and in this section, there are no new Final Draft details. Return at a later stage, and you will find some, however. For more Alan Wake 2 help, visit our hub page.
