Destiny 2 Dawning 2023: All cookie recipes and ingredients

Put those ovens to the test!

Destiny 2‘s holiday Dawning event is upon us once again, featuring an exciting array of new weapons, unlockables, and cosmetics for Guardians to chase after. As per usual, though, the only real way to participate in Dawning is to bake a smorgasbord of cookies. 20 of them, at least!

Indeed, Destiny 2‘s Dawning 2023 event features a grand total of 20 unique cookies, cakes, and other fantasy baked goods. While the process of baking cookies in Destiny 2 is straightforward in and of itself, actually farming the necessary resources is a fair bit more involved. Guardians will need to burn, electrocute, and punch their way through a ridiculous number of enemy forces to truly immerse themselves into the spirit of Dawning proper, and this guide will ensure that you optimize the heck out of this process.

Let’s start from the basics, then: there are two different types of cookie ingredients in Destiny 2: common resources and rare resources. On top of dropping at often wildly different rates, the key difference between common and rare cookie ingredients also lies in how they drop. Whereas it’s enough to just take a specific kind of enemy down to get their common drop, the only way to get a rare drop is to, say, shoot them in their head. Neat!

There are only six unique common ingredients you’ll need to farm as part of Destiny 2‘s Dawning of 2023, and each of them is attached to a particular enemy faction:

  • Vex Milk – dropped from destroyed Vex
  • Cabal Oil – dropped from dead Cabal
  • Chitin Powder – dropped from dead Hive
  • Ether Cane – dropped from dead Fallen
  • Dark Ether Cane – dropped from (un)dead Scorn
  • Taken Butter – dropped from ontologically erased Taken

All of these ingredients are easily accessible simply by playing content that features a particular enemy faction. Duking it out with your target faction in Patrol Zones should yield similar results, so Guardians have plenty of options to choose from.

Whereas you should have more than enough common ingredients to go around, the same cannot necessarily be said about the rare drops. The only way to get these is to use specific weapon types or elemental damage, which means you’ll often need to go out of your way to, say, use a shotgun or a fusion rifle for these to drop:

  • Bullet Spray – dropped upon rapid automatic fire takedowns from auto rifles, SMGs, and machine guns
  • Balanced Flavors – dropped from scout rifle, sniper rifle, pulse rifle, and bow takedowns
  • Delicious Explosions – dropped from takedowns caused by rocket launchers, heavy grenade launchers, break-action grenade launchers, and ability grenades
  • Dark Frosting – randomly dropped from Stasis ability or weapon kills
  • Electric Flavor – randomly dropped from Arc ability or weapon kills
  • Impossible Heat – randomly dropped from Solar ability or weapon kills
  • Null Taste – randomly dropped from Void ability or weapon kills
  • Superb Texture – dropped from rapid Super ability kills
  • Finishing Touch – randomly dropped upon Finisher takedowns
  • Multifaceted Flavors – dropped upon successful multi-kills caused by any damage source
  • Perfect Taste – randomly dropped from precision kills caused by any damage source
  • Personal Touch – randomly dropped from melee damage kills
  • Sharp Flavor – randomly dropped from Sword kills
  • Flash of Inspiration – dropped upon generating Orbs of Power (via Armor mods or Super abilities)

The vast majority of these are RNG-bound. In other words, it is entirely possible to spend loads of ammo and ability energy before a rare cookie ingredient drops, and getting them all may well turn into a bit of a grind before you get them all done.

Finally, there are all the ingredient combinations we’ve got on offer for this year’s Dawning. With 20 cookies to go, it’s going to take a bit until you can masterwork your Oven for reduced crafting requirements. Yet, if you aim to unlock all (or even just the majority) of Dawning’s cosmetics and items, you’re going to want to get this done for sure. Here are all the cookie recipes, as well as who you should be giving them to:

  • Traveler Donut Holes (Ikora, Tower) – Cabal Oil, Flash of Inspiration
  • Telemetry Tapioca (Banshee-44, Tower) – Vex Milk, Bullet Spray
  • Vanilla Blades (Shaxx, Tower) – Cabal Oil, Sharp Flavor
  • Bright-Duster Snowballs (Tess Everis, Tower) – Chitin Powder, Multifaceted Flavors
  • Gjallardoodles (Zavala, Tower) – Ether Cane, Delicious Explosion
  • Lavender Ribbon Cookies (Saint-14, Tower) – Vex Milk, Personal Touch
  • Hot Crossfire Buns (Ada-1, Tower) – Ether Cane, Balanced Flavors
  • Classic Butter Cookies (Eva Levante, Tower) – Taken Butter, Superb Texture
  • Dark Chocolate Motes (Drifter, Tower) – Taken Butter, Null Taste
  • Bittersweet Biscotti (Crow, HELM) – Dark Ether Cane, Balanced Flavors
  • Ascendant Oatmeal Raisin Cookies (Eris Morn, Luna) – Chitin Powder, Finishing Touch
  • Blueberry Crumbles (Shaw Han, Cosmodrome) – Ether Cane, Bullet Spray
  • Gentleman’s Shortbread (Devrim Cay, EDZ) – Ether Cane, Perfect Taste
  • Ill-Fortune Cookies (Petra Venj, Dreaming City) – Dark Ether Cane, Impossible Heat
  • Infinite Forest Cake (Failsafe, Nessus) – Vex Milk, Impossible Heat
  • Eliksni Birdseed (Hawthorne, Tower) – Ether Cane, Personal Touch
  • Starwort Thins (Exo Stranger, Europa) – Dark Ether Cane, Dark Frosting
  • Strange Cookies (Xur, Tower) – Taken Butter, Electric Flavor
  • Etheric Coldsnaps (Variks, Europa) – Chitin Powder, Electric Flavor
  • Lucent Crunch (Fynch, Savathun’s Throne World) – Chitin Powder, Perfect Taste

One last thing to keep in mind is that you’ll need 15 Essence of Dawning to bake a single cookie. After you’ve masterworked your Oven by baking each cookie at least once, this drops to a mere 10 Essence for further bakes, allowing you to optimize your farming by a significant margin.
