My team fooled a blind enemy in Lethal Company with an ice cream jingle

Eye hear you.

Chalk this one up to a “huh, I didn’t even think about doing that” situation. In a recent match of Lethal Company, my team accidentally fooled a blind enemy… by leading it away with an ice cream jingle.

As we were still inexperienced, my team went for what was supposed to be an easy excursion on the moon Assurance. But, because we’re inexperienced, we felt confident we’d be fine hunting down loot under a solar eclipse. That confidence didn’t last.

Lethal Company is a multiplayer PvE game where the job is to gather as much scrap without getting killed by hostile alien flora and fauna. In this particular story, we met with one such fauna the moment our ship hit the dirt.

The ‘Eyeless Dog’ is an apt name for a blind alien quadruped that’s 30% teeth and 70% pissed off. It normally only shows at night when the danger grows higher. But under the eclipse, it began stalking us immediately. We weren’t sure what to do until one of us decided to go shopping — perhaps to calm the nerves.

A famous ice cream jingle wins over a blind enemy in Lethal Company

He wanted a flashlight and decided to spend the 15 space dollars to get one delivered. We waited with frazzled nerves; a couple of us watched the Eyeless Dog patrol back and forth. The flashlight he bought was soon delivered by a falling drop pod. Once it landed, its song meant to help you locate it began to play. You probably know the one: It’s the same little song often heard when an ice cream truck is in the neighborhood.

Like a hoard of kids chasing down half-melted SpongeBob ice cream heads on sticks, it roared and charged the pod. In its frustration, it kept trying to attack the source of the noise. We couldn’t believe our luck. Instead of having to crouch past, we had a way to get to the Main Entrance free of immediate danger. The pod only sits and sings for roughly 40 seconds, but that was more than enough time to sprint to relative safety.

It makes sense when you think about it: A blind alien monster is fooled by a loud noise, letting the good guys escape. I suppose it’s just something we never thought about before. Normally, we’d try and sneak past or avoid enemies. But if you have the cash for a cheap item, you too can use the drop pod to distract the dangerous foe and get your team to safety. So long as at least one of you stays on the ship.

It only works if you don’t suck

Are you wondering what happened to me and my team after gaining such knowledge? Did we make it out alive and live to see another quota? Well, let’s just say even with the best-laid plans, you can still end up alien shit.
