WoW 10.2 Season 3 when to break your Tier Set bonus

When to swap from Season 2 Tier Set to Season 3 Tier Set in WoW 10.2

To break, or not to break

It’s always a tricky situation when a World of Warcraft season releases. Gear you worked hard to earn just a season ago suddenly feels less powerful. On the other hand, brand-new season gear provides immediate upgrades to both damage and survivability. With how powerful tier sets are, I feel it’s often a balancing act to know when to make the change. This guide is to help you figure out when to swap from Season 2 Tier Set to Season 3 Tier Set in WoW 10.2 based on your class.

Is it worth keeping your old Season 2 Tier set?

In my opinion, it’s definitely worth keeping your old set. In some cases, the four-piece set bonuses even outlast the new Season 3 two-piece set bonuses, meaning you can use your old Tier Set until you completely replace it with new gear. Of course, this will also depend on the Item Level. For example, a Mythic quality Season 3 Tier Set is going to be better than anything from the last tier regardless of Set bonuses.

When should your class switch sets and break your old bonuses?

You will notice that for most classes and specs, it’s worthwhile to switch to your new Season 3 Tier Set as soon as you have at least two pieces. However, there are some specs that have a very powerful Season 2 Tier Set, so it’s worthwhile keeping until you complete the full four-piece set of Season 3.

  • Death Knight — All 3 specs, including the incredibly strong Blood DK, get at least a small upgrade from replacing their old set. As such, you should switch to your Season 3 Tier Set as soon as you have two pieces. Until you have the full set of Season 3, you can still rock two pieces for both Tier Sets.
  • Demon Hunter For both specs, the new Season 3 Tier Set is much more powerful than last season. You will want to switch as soon as you can, as both new sets are extremely powerful for their spec.
  • Druid — For both Guardian and Restoration, the four-piece bonus from last season is super strong. Therefore, you only want to switch once you have the full four-set bonus of the new Season Tier Set. For Feral and Balance, you can switch as soon as you have the two-set bonus.
  • Evoker — In the case of Evoker, for all three specs you will want to switch to your new Season 3 Tier Set as soon as you acquire two pieces.
  • Hunter — For Hunters, all three specs have pretty horrid Season 2 Tier Set bonuses. As such, you will want to switch to the Season 3 Tier Set as soon as possible.
  • Mage — All three Season 3 Tier Sets for Mage are much more powerful than the previous season. I think it’s worthwhile to switch to your new Tier Set as soon as possible, once you’ve obtained at least two pieces.
  • Monk — For Monks, all three specs want to switch Tier Sets as soon as they unlock the two-piece bonus.
  • Paladin — As a Paladin, for both Holy and Retribution you want to switch as soon as you have two pieces of the Season 3 Tier Set. However, if you are a Protection Paladin, you will want to wait until you complete the entire four-piece set as last season’s Tier Set is still very strong.
  • Priest — All three Priest specializations want to switch as soon as they have two pieces of Season 3 Tier gear.
  • Rogue — For Rogues, all three specs benefit from switching to the Season 3 two-piece Tier Set as soon as you have it.
  • Shaman — Shamans are pretty unique in that for the most part, the last season Tier Sets are still pretty solid. Enhancement and Elemental want to hold off until you complete the full set of your Season 3 Tier Set. Restoration, on the other hand, can make the change at two pieces as long as it’s a nice Item Level upgrade.
  • Warlock — The Season 2 Tier Sets are strong for Destruction and Affliction Warlocks. As such, you want to wait until you complete the full set to switch. Demonology, on the other hand can switch upon getting two pieces.
  • Warrior — As a warrior, Arms, Fury, and Protection all have powerful Season 3 Tier Sets. As such, you want to switch as soon as you obtain two pieces of your set.

Knowing when to swap from Season 2 Tier Set to Season 3 Tier Set in WoW 10.2 will make life easier in terms of gearing. I think now that you know which class and spec can switch when, you should have an easier time planning out your gear acquisition in the new season.
