Unlocking MW3’s Gold Camo weapon skins

You can think of the MW3 Gilded Camo skins as essentially your gold skins from past Call of Duty games. For some reason, the name changes with this title, likely in part due to weapon camo skins crossing over from the previous game of MW2 into this title. If you want to unlock these new Gilded Camo skins, youā€™ll need to complete some challenges first.

In general, there are four base challenge skins you can unlock for every weapon in the game. This is much smaller than in the past title, which makes unlocking the golden skin much easier. Once you finish the four base challenges for the weapons, you will then unlock the Gilded Camo challenge. This is usually a pretty quick and easy one compared to the others, such as getting 10 kills without being damaged by enemies.

How to complete the base challenges

The bulk of the issue with unlocking the Gilded Camo skins in MW3 is dealing with the four base camos. You need to first level up the weapon some before you can unlock these challenges. For instance, the MCW assault rifle receives its first camo challenge at level two, its second at level 12, third at level 19, and final at level 28.

Though you can see the challenges ahead of time, you wonā€™t be able to complete their objectives until you reach the required level. The challenges vary between all of the numerous weapons in the game, but there are two methods to speed up this process.

First, you should redeem any double weapon XP tokens you have available. This lets you level up the weapon faster and unlock the base challenges more quickly. In addition to that, grind the War game mode as much as possible. The new mode is quite fun and it remains the best way to level up weapons and complete challenges so far.

For instance, if one of your base challenges is to get 25 eliminations while in the Tac Stance, you can just find some cover, mount your gun, switch to the Tac Stance, and fire away. The lengthy War matches and unlimited respawns make it easy to complete multiple challenges at once.

There are a couple of other ways to speed up the camo challenge grind as well. If War bores you with its single map and limited player count, there is also the thrilling Ground War game mode. This is a massive, Battlefield-style experience with up to 64 players in a lobby and three separate humongous maps. It is possible to run around blasting at enemies nonstop with the weapon youā€™re grinding challenges for and quickly get the eliminations you need.

If you donā€™t happen to have any double XP tokens, you can also wait for a double XP weekend event. These happen quite oftenā€”sometimes once or twice a monthā€”especially around holidays. Pair this with Ground War or War, and you will be leveling up and completing the camo challenges as fast as possible.
