4.2 New Characters: Furina and Charlotte

Furina is a 5-star Hydro Sword user. She will have both an Ousia and Pneuma Arkhe. In her Ousia form, her Skill can summon three pets who will fight for her. The pets deal damage to enemies, but also drain your teamā€™s HP. In her Pneuma form, Furina summons what appears to be an Oceanid spirit who heals allies. She can swap between her Ousia and Pneuma forms using a Charged Attack. Furinaā€™s Burst buffs her team based on the amount of HP lost or healed by the team.

We donā€™t have numbers yet, so at this point, Furina could be anything from an off-field DPS to a healer or buffer. For now, it looks like most of her damage will come from her Skill, encouraging use of the new Golden Troupe artifact set.

Charlotte is a 4-star Cryo Catalyst user. Her Skill marks enemies and deals Cryo damage at intervals. Her Burst deals several instances of Cryo damage and heals the team. Interestingly, after obtaining a certain item related to a new event, it looks like Charlotte will have access to a unique photo-taking mode, allowing you to take creative screenshots while still in combat.

Charlotte appears to be a healer. Her weapon and element combo could make her an interesting enabler for Cryo reactions, but weā€™ll need to see more of her Skill and Burst in order to find out how this might work.

Skirk is not confirmed to be a playable character, but we caught a glimpse of her in the Version trailer! Skirk is mentioned in some of Childeā€™s voicelines as his teacher when he fell into the Abyss. It seems weā€™ll finally meet her as part of the new Archon Quest, so weā€™ll have to do the quest to see more of her.

4.2 Banners

Furina and Baizhu will be the rate-up 5-star characters in the first half of 4.2, accompanied by the 4-star Charlotte. The second half will feature Cyno and Ayato.

We can infer that the first halfā€™s weapon banner will be Splendor of Tranquil Waters (Furinaā€™s signature Sword) and Jadefallā€™s Splendor. The second half will probably be Staff of Scarlet Sands and Haran Geppaku Futsu.

New Quests, Areas, and Bosses in 4.2

Version 4.2 will bring the finale of Fontaineā€™s Archon Quests with Act V, titled ā€œMasquerade of the Guilty.ā€ Furinaā€™s Story Quest will also become available with her banner. There will also be several new World Quests, including a continuation of the Narzissenkreuz storyline and something to do with the Primordial Sea.

As for the open world, Fontaine is expanding once again with two new areas to explore. The Special Program showcased some spectacular scenery from the Forest of Erinyyes and the mysterious tower weā€™ve seen to the east of Fontaine.

Weā€™re also getting two new bosses. One of them is a world boss called the Hydro Tulpa. This looks like a giant version of the Tainted Water Droplets weā€™ve seen around Fontaine. The other boss is a new weekly challenge that looks like an enormous whale. There are some interesting Arkhe mechanics involved, as well as miniboss fights during the challenge. Since these bosses are debuting in the same patch as Furina, thereā€™s a very good chance that weā€™ll need to fight both the Hydro Tulpa and the giant whale to get materials for Furina.

4.2 Events

Thelxie’s Fantastic Adventures is the flagship event for this Version. It will comprise of various minigames involving puzzles and combat. Completing this event will get you a free Freminet.

Our fungi friends are back with Lil’ Fungi’s Fun-Tastic Fiesta. This event appears to be an upgraded version of Fungus Mechanicus, where we will instruct our fungi to fight enemies from a top-down view.

Graph Adversarial Technology Experiment Log appears to be a photo-collecting event. During this event, we’ll be able to obtain the Zoom Lens, which will expand our photo-taking capabilities with our Kameras. The Zoom Lens can also be used with Charlotte to enable her to take photos anytime, anywhere.

Misty Dungeon is back with a new set of challenges and what looks like a new arena layout. This event is always a great way to try out characters you may not own.

To cap it all off, Ley Line Overflow returns with double drops from Ley Lines for a week. Be sure to take advantage of this event if you’re short on Mora or Hero’s Wits.

Quality of Life Optimizations in 4.2

There are several welcome quality of life changes coming with the new Version. Weekly boss challenges will now have a quick start function, allowing players to obtain weekly materials even if they haven’t completed the prerequisite quests. Genius Invokation TCG is getting eight new cards and sped-up animations. Players returning to Genshin Impact after a break will see an updated event UI and more bonus rewards to help get caught up. And my favorite change of all: red exclamation points will no longer appear for notifications you’ve already viewed on different platforms.

That’s all folks! Genshin Impact Version 4.2: Masquerade of the Guilty is coming very soon on November 8. Best of luck to you if you are pulling and I hope you enjoy the patch!
