It would be an understatement to say that Baldur’s Gate 3 is so big, there are whole chunks of story and gameplay that you can miss entirely if you’re not searching every nook and cranny. One case in Act 1 is the Underground Passage that links the Grove with the forest outside.
If you missed this area, unfortunately the goblins didn’t. In the Underground Passage, you’ll face not only a handful of gobbos, but also a trifecta of Guardian Towers that will volley fireballs at you and your party. But, fortune smiles on you this day, because these statues can be disabled with the right know-how. Here’s how to disable the Guardian Towers in Baldur’s Gate 3.
How to Deactivate Guardian Towers in Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3)
As soon as you enter the Underground Passage, put your entire party into stealth mode. You don’t want to risk triggering the battle before you’re absolutely ready, after all! Also, the first Guardian Tower, in the shape of an eagle, is just ahead. Thankfully, you’ll find the Rune of the Eagle just past a nearby oil puddle, so sneak to and interact with it to deactivate the eagle.
If you are choosing to ignore our advice to be stealthy, be cautious! That oil puddle can be used against you, and the last thing we’d want for you is to be in need of healing when you fight the gobbos. That sounds like an absolute nightmare, especially if you’re underleveled.
It’s actually here where you’ll initiate the battle with the goblins. You’ll see one of them ahead of you, overlooking a cliff with three others down below with an injured (or dead) druid, Findal. In my case, Findal was alive, but the goblins didn’t bother attacking him, so don’t worry too much about him at the moment. Just take the goblins out as quickly and efficiently as possible.
As soon as the goblins are eliminated, you can heal Findal if you’d like — it doesn’t really have much of an impact on the task at hand, but you’d might as well — and interact with the Rune of the Bear to the right of where the lower goblins were at the start of the battle. This will disable the second Guardian Tower in the shape of a bear.
For the last Guardian Tower, look to the west of where you found Findal and you’ll spot a platform you can jump to with what should be a familiar sight — the Rune of the Wolf is there, and upon interacting with it, you’ll disable the third and final Guardian Tower. Congrats!
