Resources will power many of your projects in Starfield. And Helium-3 (He-3), once you find and harvest it, can take your Starfield manufacturing dreams and turn them into reality.
Helium-3 is an important resource to outpost builders. The gas allows you to send resources harvested from one planetary body to another. Granted, it takes more than helium to get this done. But it is the stuff that allows all the pieces involved to continue moving. Naturally, you’ll want to harvest as much Helium-3 as possible in Starfield if you want to create that supply chain and keep it going.
The places you can find Helium-3
If you need it now, you have two primary options.
Harvest helium from planets or moons
Helium-3 is an exceptionally common resource in Starfield. Dozens if not hundreds of heavenly bodies likely contain the stuff. When scanning a planet for it, look for Helium-3/He-3 under ‘Resources’.
Here are some locations close to the starting point of the game:
- Alpha Centauri
- Kurtz, moon of Jemison
- Curbeam, moon of Bondar
- Grissom, moon of Bondar
- Zamka, moon of Olivas
- Sol
- Io, moon of Jupiter
- Callisto, moon of Jupiter
- Luna, moon of Earth
Once you find where to extract the resource, land on the respective biome that contains it and pull out your scanner. Look for a Helium-3 deposit, demonstrated by a green blanket of land with ‘He-3’ and ‘Helium-3’ displayed on the UI. Place an outpost and then build a helium extractor. Once powered up, the extractor will slowly pull the helium from the ground.
You can also harvest Helium-3 directly from deposits. But keep in mind that it is a dangerous gas, so try not to stick your head in a vent for long.
Purchase Helium-3 at merchants
You can find Helium-3 for sale at many different merchant stores in Starfield. I found a ton it at the UC Distribution Center in New Atlantis. Most general shops can carry it, but their stock can be random. Waiting for 24 hours could refresh what they have for sale.
What is Helium-3 used for in Starfield?
As mentioned, Helium-3 powers your resource gathering in Starfield. It’s needed to charge not only the Fueled Generator outpost item but the Cargo Link – Inter-System. The latter is how you can send resources from one outpost to another and complete Supply Missions. It’s incredibly useful if you need to harvest a lot of resources but don’t want to bounce from planet to planet gathering it all up.
Helium is also used in weapon crafting. It’s needed to create things like the standard Laser Sight and Red Dot Sight.
If you’re also on the hunt for Titanium, we have what you need.
