Today marks a momentous event in videogame history — the opening of a museum dedicated specifically to the history of electronic games! Gamasutra reports that the center opens today within the Strong National Museum of Play and boasts itself as “the only museum anywhere devoted solely to the study and interpretation of play.” I like that idea!
The center houses some 15,000 game-related items, including every major console release since the Magnavox Odyssey. Some of these consoles can actually be played, according to the center’s website, In addition to the vast permanent collection, the center will house an exhibit called “Videotopia” from May 30th to November 1st of this year, which will show off mostly arcade games. You can also donate games, systems or any piece of game-related memorobilia you want by contacting the director, Jon-Paul C. Dyson, at [email protected]. That is, if they don’t already have whatever it is you want to donate!
