Spider-Man 2 continues Peter Parker’s story as he attempts to mentor Miles Morales, maintain his relationship with MJ, and help his friend Harry who is sick. When a black symbiote arrives, it seems to fix many problems at first. Things quickly go south, however, leading to some high-adrenaline moments. These are some of the most memorable missions in Spider-Man 2. The are massive story spoilers ahead from this point onwards.
A Second Chance
Some of the best missions don’t focus on combat but instead, delve into the personal lives of Peter and Miles. A Second Chance is one of those missions, and it has Peter, MJ, and Harry visit the Park of Coney Island.
There’s a heap of rides to jump on and games to play, making you feel like you’ve really visited an amusement park. Unfortunately, the night is ruined when Kraven’s cronies arrive. Peter doesn’t have to fight alone, as Harry reveals a trick of his own.
I Knew You Had It In You
There’s been a series of arsons around the city, and it doesn’t seem random. Eventually, Peter uncovers a cult run by the Flame. He tries to stop it but realizes Yuri is attempting to destroy the cult as well.
They can’t work together because they have conflicting ideas on what justice looks like. I Knew You Had It In You features Peter and Yuri battling, and it’s one of the best combat encounters in the game. Yuri’s fast moves require you to be quick-minded to get the upper hand, and when you think she’s done, she proves she has plenty more fight left in her.
Find Grandpa
It appears that Miles Morales gets the more heartwarming missions while Peter Parker is tasked with the butt-kicking. One of the sweetest missions you can play as Miles is the optional side mission titled Find Grandpa. A New Yorker asks Spider-Man to help her find her grandpa who has gone missing.
You’ll have to put together some clues to locate him. Eventually, you’ll find him sitting on a bench as he reminisces about his late wife. It’s a small moment, but it’s the reminder that’s needed to highlight precisely why Peter and Miles sacrifice so much to save New Yorkers.
Surface Tension
There are a few ways to start a game. With Spider-Man 2, Insomniac decided to throw players into the deep end, letting them experience exhilarating excitement from the very beginning.
Miles and Peter have their regular lives destroyed when Sandman decides to start wrecking the city. The battle has you web-swinging between buildings and dodging supersized punches from Sandman. There’s some amazing cinematography that makes you feel like you’re playing a movie.
Don’t Be Scared
Arguably the most explosive mission in the game, Don’t Be Scared shows you the birth of Venom. After realizing how corrupting the symbiote is, he attempts to destroy it, but he is stopped by Harry who needs it to cure him of his sickness.
The symbiote clutches onto Harry, and Venom and his 19-inch tongue are born. Quite unexpectedly, we get to take control of Venom during this mission that ends in a spectacular showdown with Kraven.
Graffiti Trouble
This is an optional mission, and it is one of the best in the game. To start it, you’ll have to switch to Miles Morales but you won’t be playing as him for long. For most of the mission, you’ll be in one of Hailey’s flashbacks as she reveals how she enhanced graffiti around the city to look better.
To increase how immersive the sequence is, the sound is turned down to emulate Hailey’s hearing impairment. We see the ways she navigates the world and the different strategies she uses to communicate with others. Don’t miss this one, as Hailey is one of the most lovable characters in the game.
It’s not wise to rush through Spider-Man 2. Enjoy the side stories, spend some time web-swinging through the city, and meet the people of the city. You never know what you’ll uncover.
