PlayStation has admittedly been quiet about its upcoming lineup. However, there are plenty of confirmed PlayStation exclusives on the horizon, including Spidey’s next adventure and Cloud’s ongoing saga against Sephiroth. Personally, it’s a line-up I’m already eager for. Here’s everything we currently know about the upcoming PlayStation exclusives of 2023 and 2024.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (October 20, 2023)
PlayStation’s next entry in the critically acclaimed Marvel’s Spider-Man series arrives in a matter of days. It features both Peter Parker and Miles Morales as you switch between them on the fly. New York City is also bigger, with double the map size. The story includes iconic villains, too, such as Venom and Kraven the Hunter, who poses a massive threat to both webheads.
I personally can’t wait to use the Web Wings as well, which lets you fly across New York City’s skyline with your hero’s momentum. Keep your spidey-senses tingling for our review later this month.
Helldivers 2 (February 8, 2024)
While Helldivers 2 is heading to PC, it’s also arriving as a console exclusive for the PS5. Instead of the top-down view, we’ll be fighting these alien lifeforms in a third-person angle. The action will be intense as you play alongside up to three of your friends.
“Each enemy has distinct and unpredictable characteristics, tactics, and behavior ā but they all fight ferociously and without fear or morality,” says PlayStation on Helldivers 2‘s Steam page. It will be neat to have a new co-op shooting title for the PlayStation 5 when this game arrives.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth (February 29, 2024)
Cloud, Tifa, and the rest of the Avalanche crew are back in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. The series’ next entry goes open world with new locations and towns to explore along the way. There’s also a segment in which Cloud and his mortal enemy Sephiroth fight standing together, strangely enough. This time, we’ll have three new party members, including Yuffie, Red XIII, and Cait Sith, who’ll be joining the adventure.
Additionally, Rebirth brings “dozens of hours of rewarding side content and mini-games,” according to Square Enix’s press release. Hopefully, the sequel lands with fans and critics alike when it releases in February.
Death Stranding 2 (TBA)
It’s been quite a while since we’ve heard of Hideo Kojima’s next project. However, Death Stranding 2 is very much an anticipated game for the PS5. We don’t have much information about this sequel yet other than its fittingly vague trailer. However, we do know that some major Hollywood talent are involved, including Norman Reedus, LĆ©a Seydoux, Elle Fanning, Shioli Kutsuna, and Troy Baker. Hopefully, we get more news at this year’s The Game Awards.
Fairgame$ (TBA)
Fairgame$ is a part of a new PlayStation initiative, in which more games-as-a-service titles are heading to PS5 users. This one will be heist-themed and will have us, according to the PlayStation Blog, “inside forbidden locations around the world [and] fill [our] pockets like a kid in a candy store.” PlayStation also teases that we’ll find out about the “nefarious plans of untouchable billionaires.”
The developer Haven Studios calls it “a new type of PvP game with emergent sandbox gameplay.” We’ve only received a CG trailer so far, so fingers crossed we see some gameplay at an event like State of Play or The Game Awards soon.
Marathon (TBA)
Well-regarded first-person shooter developer Bungie is bringing back an old IP Marathon to a new audience. Similarly to Fairgame$, we haven’t seen any gameplay for it. We do know it’s going to be a PvP extraction shooter, though. It will also have full crossplay between the PS5 and PC versions of the game. Unfortunately, there won’t be a single-player campaign for Marathon, unlike the original title.
Marvel’s Wolverine (TBA)
We have no idea when Insomniac Games’ take on the violent hero will be arriving on the PS5. However, the developer is exceptionally quick at bringing out quality content every time (except maybe Fuse, but we’ll forgive them for that).
We do know the game will be fully-sized, unlike Miles Morales‘ first title, and it will be mature in tone. Other than that, there’s not that much information as of the time of writing. If it’s as good or better than the X-Men Origins: Wolverine game, however, we’re in for a treat. It’s one of the upcoming PlayStation exclusives I can’t wait to hear more about.
Silent Hill 2 remake (TBA)
The Silent Hill 2 remake is another promising PlayStation console exclusive. Its modern vision will move on to Unreal Engine 5 and is being developed by Bloober Team. It’s a studio already familiar with the horror genre as the developer on The Medium and Layers of Fear. Bloober has stated before its vision will change some of the old-school gameplay options you remember.
“One of the new elements that you could spot in the reveal trailer is the adoption of an over-the-shoulder camera,” said creative director and lead designer Mateusz Lenart to the PlayStation Blog. “With that change, we want to immerse players even deeper into the game, make them feel like they are a part of this unreal world, and deliver them a more visceral experience across the board.”
