Can you change your race in Baldur’s Gate 3

The sky's (mostly) the limit.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is, at its core, a game that lets you do (mostly) anything your heart desires. I mean, depending on the desired action, you may have to pass a dice check, but for the most part, the sky’s the limit. It’s also a game set in a fantasy realm, so it’d make sense that you can change certain aspects about your character, such as your voice, face, etc. on a whim. But, can you change your race?

Can you change your race?

Sadly, while you can do next to anything, you cannot change your race

Keep in mind there are a number of other factors about your character that you can change by interacting with the Magic Mirror in your camp. For example, if you’d like to immerse yourself in the narrative and give your character a prominent scar later in the game to give them some implied backstory, you can.

You can also change your character’s skin color with no problem. But, you can’t suddenly decide to transmogrify them from an Elf into a Githyanki or Tiefling. That would most likely cause so many problems with the engine, so it’s honestly no wonder it isn’t something you can do in Baldur’s Gate 3

While you can’t change your race, you can change your class by speaking with Withers, the wraith who lives in your camp. It’s a process that costs 100 gold, but if you’re willing to part with the coins, you can re-spec your character from a Barbarian to a Bard, or a Cleric to a Druid.
