Final Fantasy XIV’s big update, Growing Light, is out now after an October 3, 2023 debut. The latest patch ushers in new story beats with its Main Scenario Quests (MSQ), more alliance raid fights, an Endwalker Extreme Trial, and more.
If the MMORPG is overwhelming you with new decisions on where to start it all, don’t worry ā we’ll make you a Scholar soon enough. Here’s where to begin the Patch 6.5 FFXIV MSQ, how to unlock the new 24-man, where you can find Margrat, and everything else in this latest update. Plus, we’ll give you the rundown on requirements for getting started.
Where to begin FFXIV MSQ in Patch 6.5
The FFXIV MSQ in Patch 6.5 begins with Varshahn in Radz-at-Han (X:4.4, Y:9.8). If you’re all caught up, he’ll task you with the new main story quest, Seeking the Light.
It’s seven quests long, adding in The Lunar Subterrane dungeon and The Abyssal Fracture trial after completing the first five.
In order to begin, complete the MSQ all the way through Patch 6.4, which left off with The Dark Throne. That includes completing the fight with Golbez in The Voidcast Dais, and if you’re not sure you wrapped things up, teleport to Mare Lamentorum to double-check for any unfinished story quest markers.
Where to unlock Thaleia, the Alliance Raid
It’s the final arc for the FFXIV alliance raid, Myths of the Realm. To begin, speak to Deryk in Mor Dhona (X:23.9, Y:9.1) and follow his latest questline starting with The Heart of the Myth. This unlocks the new 24-man Alliance Raid, Thaleia.
However, if you haven’t completed the first two raids, Aglaia and Euphrosyne, none of this is available. Complete the Patch 6.3 quest, The Secret of the Twelve, in order to jump right into FFXIV’s new massive encounter.
Where to unlock The Abyssal Fracture Extreme
Like the other Extreme Trials, unlock The Abyssal Fracture Extreme by speaking to The Wandering Minstrel in Old Sharlayan (X:12.7, Y:14.2). This is available upon completing the normal difficulty, you don’t have to finish the main scenario’s Reunited at Last quest. It’s a nice little detour if you’re rushing to join the Extreme Trial with friends, and want to wait on enjoying Growing Light’s end.
As an extra note, those of you farming the latest Extreme Trial may find our guide on collecting all of the Endwalker Lynx mounts handy. If you unlock them all, scoring the new Abyssal Fracture cat unlocks the Wings of Hope quest and Final Fantasy IV-themed Bahamut mount.
Where to unlock The Singularity Reactor Unreal
Don’t worry, I forget this every time, too. The Singularly Reactor Unreal, also known as Thordan Unreal, is automatically available to players with Faux Hollows unlocked. You don’t need to speak to anyone, just open Duty Finder and navigate to high end content. Thordan and his knights wait for you there.
If you don’t have Faux Hollows unlocked and this is your first Unreal Trial, it’s easy enough to unlock. Begin the Fantastic Mr. Fox questline by speaking to the Painfully Ishgardian Man in Idyllshire (X: 7.0, Y: 5.9). After a few scenes, you should have access to the weekly Faux Hollows minigame.
Where to unlock 6.5 Island Sanctuary Quests
Speak to the Felicitous Furball at (X:12.6, Y:28.3) in your Island Sanctuary. They’ll ask you meet up with the Determind Digger.
Next, find the Determined Digger inside the island cave. You can enter the cave at (X:26.8, Y21.1). Investigate nodes in the chasm below until you knock against the rock wall and hear a “hollow sound,” then report back. The Determined Digger asks that you build a Splendiferous Mammet-sized Spelunking Tool.
After building the tool, speak to the Determined Digger again in the cave and he’ll help your Warrior of Light further realize the island’s vision. This unlocks the Mountain Hollow / Mother Lode zone, deeper in the cave. Here, you can gather Island Hawk’s Eye Sand and Island Yellow Copper Ore.
Where to begin Margrat’s Custom Deliveries
The new Margrat FFXIV Custom Delivery quest begins with Theopauldin in Old Sharlayan (X:13.8 Y:15.0). He’ll assign you with A Request of One’s Own, a two-part sidequest that should unlock Margrat’s requests.
Remember that her weekly tasks are only for leveling Disciples of the Hand or Land at level 80. If you’re lower, you may want to grind older Custom Delivery quests until hitting the Endwalker milestone.
What about Tribal Alliance, Tataru, and Hildibrand?
Quests for the Tribal Alliance, Tataru, and more Hildibrand relic steps are on the way in Patch 6.55, with Growing Light part two, though I’d recommend you go ahead and start preparing now.
While you’ve got until January 2024 at least, you’ll need to reach max rank with all three Endwalker Tribes to begin the Tribal Alliance quest. That’s at least if it’s anything like the old ones. To catch up with Tataru’s Grand Endeavor, ensure you’ve finished all of Mehdjina’s quest in Old Sharlayan (X:11.8, Y:9.9).
