With 2K Marin set to unleash BioShock 2: Sea of Dreams this year, it was only a matter of time before cryptic Web sites and narrative clues started popping up on the Internet.

The day for that happens to be today, as www.somethinginthesea.com appears to drop a few hints as to what we might expect to see in BioShock 2. The Flash-based Web site is full of cryptic information about the kidnapping of a girl near a beach, reportedly by a “thin attacker” who wore some kind of “red light” or a “miner’s helmet.” While that doesn’t necessarily match the description of the infamous Big Daddy, a drawing of a child’s toy that resembles the hulking harvester appears on the Web site as well.

There’s been some speculation as to whether BioShock 2 would be a prequel, but a handwritten note found on the site is from March 18, 1967. This would suggest a sequel, although 2K reps have hinted that the game would be both a prequel and a sequel. Yeah, mindblowing, I know.

March 18, eh? That’s one week before GDC, where word has it BioShock 2 will make an appearance. Coincidence? Nah, probably not.
