Sony has pulled a number of bus shelter ads promoting Killzone 2 following complaints concerning their “violent” imagery. It’s been proven that viewing pictures of things that may represent fictional violent acts in natural sunlight can sterilize women, rendering their ovaries barren and forming a rusted coating around the felopian tubes. For the sake of Toronto’s vaginas, the adverts had to go.

“My kids, who come from a lot of different countries, who have to experience violence, who basically come here to seek shelter and safety, that’s the stuff they don’t need to see,” complained teacher Davis Mirza. The teacher lodged his complaint directly with Sony Canada, criticizing the poster’s use of a “menacing head with glowing eyes” and images of a warzone that was “like Iraq.”

Of course, nobody has mentioned the irony that images of a warzone that IS Iraq get frequently broadcast on national television by news outlets, and are freely available in papers that anybody can get their hands on. The message here seems to be that fantasy violence is bad, while real violence and real death is perfectly fine.

Sony says the bus shelter ads were going down at the end of the week anyway, but have sped up the process following Mirza’s email. Sony Canada’s Kyle Moffatt said that in future, PlayStation adverts will draw a radius around schools and establish zones where future videogame promotion will be “off-limits.”

This will definitely help to end all the violence in the world. All of it.
