Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3): How to enter a Burrow Hole

I’ve gone one too many times missing the obvious in Faerun, and the same goes for conquering a BG3 Burrow Hole for the first time. If a pesky hole-in-the-wall has you just as stumped, we’ve got you covered with a few options below. And no, none of them involve grabbing a shovel.

Entering a BG3 burrow hole

Look close, or you’ll miss it. A burrow hole in Baldur’s Gate 3 typically blends with the ground around it. If you notice small areas of clumpy dirt or rocks that don’t look quite right, hover the cursor over the spot.

If it’s a burrow hole, BG3 prompts you to investigate. Select it, and your Tav will relentlessly explain, “I’m way too big to fit” with every click. You’ve got a few options:

• Using a Druid, transform into a cat
• Cast Gasesous Form using a Warlock, Wizard, or Scroll

In my own BG3 playthrough, I tried to shapeshift my elf into a smaller race by going the Dwarf route. It didn’t get me through the burrow hole, but some Reddit users report that using Reduce in combination with a small race makes a character small enough.

Instead, I’ve got Karlach going the Druid and Barbarian route. I have her transform into a cat and climb through. Some players try using Familiars, but they can’t interact with anything once crossing, so it’s not worth the hassle. Choose one of the other options here, just in case something helpful is on the other side.

What secrets wait beyond a burrow hole?

Burrow holes in Baldur’s Gate 3 can hide anything from rare treasures to absolutely nothing. Often, you’ll find that they don’t offer much more than a shortcut between other locations, but they’re still worth exploring.

As an example, it’s easy to circumvent some NPCs in the Toll House along the Risen Road by taking the burrow hole out back. The path leads to a few rare items, and saves some time if you’re in a rush.
