How to get Malignant Ichor in Diablo 4

They’re easy to get, even if you don’t know it yet

With the launch of Season of the Malignant in Diablo 4, players will find some new gameplay systems in the game’s first season. The vast majority of these revolve around Malignant Hearts, the most substantial addition in season 1. Through this, you’ll notice a variety of new crafting materials called “Malignant Ichor,” which the game doesn’t necessarily explain up front. How do you get these?

To get Malignant Ichor in Diablo 4, you’ll want to complete Malignant Tunnels. These dungeons will appear on your map with a leaf icon and a green dot, so you can’t miss them. Not only will you earn Malignant Ichor outright, you’ll also get a variety of Caged Hearts in the process. By salvaging excess hearts at Cormond’s Workbench, you’ll receive even more Malignant Ichor.

This may compel you to salvage Caged Hearts instead of slotting them in your jewelry. However, you’ll leave a lot of power on the table by doing this. If you salvage an accessory with a Caged Heart inside it, you’ll still get Malignant Ichor. Many Caged Hearts have much more useful effects than normal jewelry does in accessory slots, so absolutely take advantage of the opportunity. You’ll become much more powerful!

What to do with Malignant Ichor in Diablo 4

You’ll use Malignant Ichor to craft season-specific items at Cormond’s Workbench. You can notably find a workbench in Kyovashad and to the southwest of Ked Bardu. With your Ichors, you can either roll the dice on new Caged Hearts, or you can craft Malignant Invokers. You may use the latter in Malignant Tunnels, so consider bringing Invokers along if you’re looking to grind there.

You can also roll the dice by crafting Uncertain Hearts and Uncertain Invokers. These will spit out any variety of Heart or Invoker, so you will have to deal with a bit of luck here. However, by crafting caches, you’ll have a chance of getting powerful Wrathful Hearts and Wrathful Invokers, the rarest and most valuable items of their respective categories. In other words, you’ll hopefully get some awesome rewards by leaving things up to luck.

If you want to get Wrathful items, I highly recommend crafting the Uncertain coffers and rolling with whatever goods you find along the way. Best of luck as you complete the Season of the Malignant!
