After chasing Hugo Kupka to Drake’s Fang, you will find a handful of new hunts to tackle. This includes new targets in the deserts of Dhalmekia. Even though the bill will list your target as A Hill to Die On, you will soon discover its real name: Fastitocalon.

Fasitocalon, A Hill to Die On, is one ofĀ Final Fantasy XVI‘s many B-rank hunts. The tortoise is level 34, so be sure you are at least within a few levels of the beast. I was level 33 when I completed the hunt, and felt like I would have been fine a few levels lower.

Now let’s go over Fastitocalon, A Hill to Die On’s location, as well as the way to properly defeat the creature in Final Fantasy XVI.

Final Fantasy XVI (FF16) Fastitocalon, A Hill to Die On tips & tricks

This will be the first time in yourĀ Final Fantasy XVIĀ adventure that you encounter an enemy quite like Fastitocalon. For starters, it’s a tortoise with a big spiky shell. Therefore, you will have to attack its head in order to deal any actual damage. The tough shell will deflect any attacks you throw at it, so continue focusing your attacks on its front.

Throughout the fight, you will want to keep an eye out for what I call the Belly Flop. Fastitocalon will lean back on its back legs before slamming forward. The move is very easy to dodge once you see the tortoise standing upright.

The next attack you will want to watch out for is Water Cannon. Fastitocalon will shoot a stream of water from its mouth, which can immobilize you and inflict some steady damage. Thankfully, the tortoise does not move around or rotate while channeling this attack, so you can easily sidestep it.

The final move you will want to watch out for is Testudo Trompe. Fastitocalon will start to spin around quickly, occasionally jump into the air, and slam down toward you. You will want to just run away when you see this attack animation, because even getting hit by the spin attack can be deadly. Throughout this sequence, small geysers will also shoot up from the ground around Fastitocalon. Be sure not to move over them as they can immobilize you and make it hard to dodge the spinning tortoise.
