Smile On, Spectacle Rock
During your travels around Hyrule in Tears of the Kingdom, you’ll come across many horse stables where you can rest up and store your noble steed. Some of these stables also have side missions you can do while you’re working towards the ultimate goal of finding Princess Zelda with the Lucky Clover Gazette. The Gerudo Canyon stable includes a side quest where you need to snap a picture of Spectacle Rock.
Here’s how to find it, and what you’ll need to do to complete the side quest.
Spectacle Rock location & directions in Tears of the Kingdom
If you haven’t been to the Gerudo Canyon Stable, it’s simple to find. The stable is located northeast of Kara Kara Bazaar, just inside the mouth of Gerudo Canyon.
If this is your first time visiting the stable, you may notice the entrance is sealed off by boxes. To activate the side quest “A Picture for the Closed Stable” you’ll need to remove the boxes from the stable. This can be done by taking them outside with the Ultrahand or destroying them.
After taking care of the boxes, you’ll learn that Princess Zelda ordered the stable to shut down. However, you can interact with the picture frames to begin the quest. The stable owner will explain that he wants a picture of Spectacle Rock, smiling. They mention that they learned of Spectacle Rock’s smile thanks to a Rito Traveller who was flying over. This means you’ll have to snap a picture from the sky islands.
Fortunately, snapping a picture of it is simple. Spectacle Rock is located just south of the Gerudo Canyon Sky Tower. Its name is on the map, so it’s not hard to miss. However, instead of heading to the sky island directly above Spectacle Rock, you’ll want to head to the island northeast of it. Look for the island with a Zonai Capsule machine and the Rakashog Shrine located on it. If you have the shrine completed, or at least opened, you should be able to fast travel to the island.
Smile for the camera
Once you’re there, head to the side of the island that’s facing Spectacle Rock. Pulling out your camera, you’ll notice that the floating rocks off the southwest part of the island line up to form a smiling face, with Spectacle Rock as the eyes.
Snap a picture of it with the camera, and take it back to the stable to complete the first half of this side quest in Tears of the Kingdom.
