If you’re getting Metal Gear Solid Master Collection on Switch, it has some massive download sizes

I hope you have space, Snake

The Metal Gear Solid Master Collection (Volume 1) is coming to Switch and a bunch of other platforms. That’s good! But on Nintendo’s system, it’s going to require an off-the-cart download. That’s bad!

So let’s go directly into the bad news. Thanks to some extra info on the Konami website (it’s at the very bottom if you have the Switch version selected), we have an idea of how this is all going to play out. The site breaks down how much of the game is actually on the physical cart, and it doesn’t look good. 2.4GB seems to be “front-loaded” on the cart, with the rest in your hands and your internet connection.

It gets worse when you look at the bonus content, which will bring the total download size up to 30GB. It doesn’t seem like there’s any wiggle room here, as Konami notes “to enjoy all available content, game data must be downloaded (free),” and an “internet connection is required.” The site even recommends a microSD card off the bat.

The bit of good news, which is actually kinda-sorta false hope, is that these download sizes are “tentative” and “will be finalized by September 2023.” Sorry, it’s not actually good news, but you deserve some hope.

All of the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Switch download sizes: What’s on the cart?

  • Physical Version : 24.1GB ( *Front loaded onto cartridge 2.4GB )
  • Metal Gear Solid- Master Collection Version : 4.8GB
  • excl. MG&MG2 : 3.4GB
  • incl. MG&MG2 : 4.8GB ( Metal Gear & Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake : 1.4GB )
  • Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty – Master Collection Version : 8.0GB
  • Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater – Master Collection Version : 12.2GB
  • Bonus Content : 1.0GB + 30 GB for bonus videos

Have this all sorted before the game is out on October 24, 2023!
