How to get Baleful Fragments in Diablo 4

With great sacrifice comes great rewards (maybe)

Diablo 4 features a myriad of systems to augment your equipment. However, many of them come with a hefty cost. Sure. the Blacksmith can strengthen your stuff for cheap, but the Occultist presents a different story.

If youā€™ve used this vendor to imprint Aspects on a weapon, you might see some high-end materials appear as prerequisites. These include Baleful Fragments, and since youā€™re here, youā€™re certainly wondering where the heck youā€™ll find these things. Truthfully, the solution isnā€™t exactly hard to understand, but it does present a wall that will likely prevent you from using this system too much until youā€™re deep into endgame. Hereā€™s what you need to know.

Where to find Baleful Fragments in Diablo 4

Baleful Fragments come from salvaging Legendary weapons. Thatā€™s right, youā€™ll have to give up some of your best equipment to have a chance at getting one. I canā€™t stress enough that you wonā€™t necessarily get a Baleful Fragment upon salvaging a Legendary weapon. You could wind up with merely common materials.

Anecdotally, it appears an itemā€™s level influences its chance of dropping Baleful Fragments. I’ve yet to see low level Legendary equipment yield these rare materials upon salvaging, while gear in the level 35+ range seems to do it for me. After investigating the wider community, I couldnā€™t find a firm source on how the drop rates for Baleful Fragments work. As a result, Iā€™d recommend finding other uses for low-level Legendary gear and saving the salvaging for stronger gear.

You should also remember that Baleful Fragments come from weapons specifically. Legendary armor may drop Coiling Wards, and Jewelry will yield Abstruse Sigils. While you probably want these materials as well, donā€™t blow through their respective sources hoping for Baleful Fragments. Youā€™ll just wind up disappointed in the end.

Weā€™ll keep you posted as we learn more about salvaging in Diablo 4. For now, just take legendary weapons you donā€™t need to the Blacksmith and hope for the best. Good luck perfecting your equipment!
