How to beat the Marbled Gohma boss in Tears of the Kingdom

Chill out, hothead

Recommended Videos

A lot of reimagined classic enemies return inĀ Tears of the Kingdom, including the Marbled Gohma. Here’s how to take it out, and how to make the best use of your Champion ability when fighting it.

The Marbled Gohma resides in the Fire Temple

After triggering all of the locks in the Fire Temple, you’ll take on the Gohma in a circular arena.

Like the other major boss fights, your Champion ability is key here. In this case, it’s the “rollout” explosion Goron power you’ve been using throughout the dungeon.

Knock out its legs, then it the eye on top

Get to work fast, as your Champion ability is available right at the start.

As soon as you have control over Link, command your Champion (by pressing A while near them) to rollout, then aim at one of the rock-like legs of the Gohma. Let them rip with another tap of the A button, and they’ll slam into the said leg, incapacitating the Gohma. Repeat the process so that the Gohma is fully dazed and stands still.

Remember the Talos fights inĀ Breath of the Wild? You’re taking a similar tact here, running up on it enemy itself to pummel its weak point. Get out your best weapon and slash the eye until the Gohma perks up: then jump off before it damages you when it resets. Make sure you don’t linger after it starts getting up: you’ll take unnecessary damage if you do. Arrows are also an option: just aim directly at the eye when it’s down.

Throughout this time the Gohma will be throwing projectiles at you, and coming in close for melee attacks. For the ranged bits, make exaggerated sprinting motions around the arena to steer clear of the projectiles, which move fairly slowly. Stay at a “medium” range from the Gohma so that you have enough time to run up on it and deal tons of damage; but far enough away where you’re out of melee range.

At roughly half health, the Marbled Gohma will enter phase two.

This is one of the more markedly different phase twos of the temple bosses, as the Gohma will start walking up on the ceiling. Now, you have to use your rollout ability to roll your Champion along the wall and upside down, so that it hits the fragile legs from phase one.

Slamming into a leg will cause the Gohma to fall down: opening up its eye to attacks. Make sure you aim and execute rollout while you’re semi-close to the Gohma, so that you have enough time to run up to it and get in as many attacks as possible. Beyond the ceiling gimmick this phase is mostly the same, so keep attacking it until it’s down.

Your reward for beating the Marbled Gohma is a heart container

Like most core bosses in theĀ Zelda series, you’ll earn a Heart Container for finishing off the Marbled Gohma. Collect it after the fight, then interact with the podium to unlock the Goron Champion ability.
