Is the blood moon still in Tears of the Kingdom? – Answered

Oh you better believe it’s in

Nintendo has re-used several themes and mechanics fromĀ Breath of the Wild inĀ Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom: which is convenient on multiple levels. I mean, the assets are still there, and a lot of people enjoyed most of whatĀ Breath of the Wild was selling, so why not! The blood moon returns in the sequel, and it operates similarly.

What does the blood moon do inĀ Tears of the Kingdom?

For those of you who haven’t playedĀ Breath of the Wild, the blood moon is basically a mini-event that happens periodically throughout the game, as the day and night cycles change. Think of it like a cursed omen lore-wise, with some mechanical implications.

Here is generally what happens during the blood moon, using broad strokes:

  • Enemies respawn
  • Reagents/overworld items respawn

That’s the general gist. It’s a way to “reset” the world and clear out any excess junk while repopulating it so that it doesn’t feel empty and devoid of enemies. You canĀ tell it’s coming through the combination of an ominous music cue, and/or portions of gloom floating around in the game world.

Also yes, there is still a Zelda voiceover during the blood moon sequences!
