“Mark” does not mean the same thing as ping
AlthoughĀ Fortnite has hosted “mark enemy player” quests in the past (including at the start of the Chapter!), it confuses me every single time. Here’s a quick breakdown of how to mark enemy players and characters
Marking enemy players literally marks them in red on your HUD
Marking enemy players and characters, in this context, means marking them so they show up on your HUD.
Think of it like a “hunter’s mark.” This is not the same as pressing left on the d-pad on consoles to “ping mark” enemies and NPCs.
There are multiple ways to mark enemies
- Use the bloodhound perk
Marking enemies with the bloodhound perk is by far the easiest way to wrack up marks. If you don’t roll this perk initially, re-roll until you get it. The sooner you finish this quest while you’re geared up and in position, the better.
- Capture a point in a POI by raising the flag, which can mark nearby enemies
This is another super easy method of marking enemy players on the map. Grab a point of interest flag, raise it to the top, and get some free marks.
Don’t forget, you can mark the vault key VIPs and their retinue
MarkingĀ characters is an additional parameter you can make use of. That includes characters that are shown plainly on the map in the pause screen character menuĀ or hostile NPCs like the VIP and their retinue (they are always accompanied by two guards).
Just use your bloodhound perk, shoot them once with a marksman rifle or sniper shot, and you’ll clean up three marks for your quest immediately. For bonus points you can also claim the point/flag in Brutal Bastion!
