How to complete “A Gambling Man” in Octopath Traveler 2

It’s all fun and games until someone cheats

A Gambling Man is a short side quest in Octopath Traveler 2 that is available relatively early in the game. It features a concerned wife and a gambling husband who are at odds over how much money the husband is gambling away. Distressed and suspicious, the wife asks the hero to help her find definitive proof that the Game Parlor’s dealers are cheating her husband out of his money.

The entirety of the “A Gambling Man” side quest in Octopath Traveler 2 takes place in Throné’s home of New Delstra. To start the quest, head down the stairs to the seedy underbelly of the New Delstra Backstreets. The concerned wife can be seen at the entrance of the backstreets arguing with her husband. Talk to them both to begin the quest.

How to get the Truth of the Game Parlor information in Octopath Traveler 2

The wife will say she’s worried about her husband’s gambling at the local Game Parlor, specifically that she doesn’t trust the dealers. She thinks they’ve rigged the games and wants you to find evidence so she can convince him to stop playing.

After starting the quest, make sure Temenos or Osvald are in your party and head to the Game Parlor. It’s easy to find as it is the most extravagant building in the Backstreets. Head all the way to the north of the Backstreets map to its location.

If you enter during night, you’ll see the gambling husband playing games at the roulette table in the back of the parlor. You can talk to him, but it isn’t necessary to complete the quest. You need to speak to the dealer at the head of the husband’s table. He will claim, in a rather hamfisted way, that he is definitely, absolutely, 100% running a clean game.

Of course, he isn’t, so you can use Osvald’s scrutinize ability or Temenos’ Coerce ability to get the real information out of the dealer. For Osvald, make sure to switch to daytime and talk to the dealer on the other side of the room. The dealer isn’t very hard to beat, and decent equipment at level 15+ should make easy work of him. He’s vulnerable to Temenos’ light Cleric skills, so Holy Light will have him spilling his guts in a jiffy.

Bring the Truth of the Game Parlor to the concerned wife

After defeating the dealer, you’ll gain the information “Truth of the Game Parlor,” which the concerned wife can use as evidence. Head back to where you started the quest to hand the info over. Finally, the husband and wife will have a heartwarming conversation back at the Game Parlor, and the quest is complete!
