A cross-gen treat
The transition between console generations has occurred very slowly over the last few years, so it seems natural for prospective buyers to wonder whether or not they’ll finally have to shell out for a new console. If you’re eying up the Resident Evil 4 remake and wondering whether or not you can play it, I’ve got some good news and a bit of bad news.
If you’ve purchased a new home console or gaming PC in the last decade, you’ll probably be able to run Resident Evil 4. While the game is launching for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, it’s also coming to the PS4, and it’ll launch on PC as well.
So no Xbox One for the Resident Evil 4 remake?
Here’s the catch to that “probably.” While PlayStation folks of this gen and the last can play RE4, it’s strictly current-generation for Xbox fans. The Xbox One family of consoles will have to go without this one. If it’s any consolation, you can still play the original Resident Evil 4 on your Xbox One, and it’s still great.
But what about the Resident Evil 4 remake on Switch?
Unfortunately, you won’t be able to play Resident Evil 4 on Switch—at least, not when it releases on March 23. The game will release on all current-gen and some last-gen home consoles, but Nintendo’s hybrid portable is a bit too last-gen for this particular piece of survival horror goodness. But all hope is not quite lost.
Recently, Capcom’s been making a point of getting its beefier Resident Evil titles onto the Nintendo Switch to accompany the older series entries that are already available. The remakes of Resident Evil 2 and 3 were both ported to the Switch via Cloud versions. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Resident Evil Village are also available through the Cloud.
All of these ports came well after the original games were released. There’s still a slim chance that the Resident Evil 4 remake will come to the Switch someday. But that’s all speculation. The fact is, it won’t be there at launch. In the mean time, you can also play the original Resident Evil 4 on the Switch (and it’s also great).
