Flame Body is one of the rare abilities in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet that has a dual-purpose. In battle, Flame Body has a 30% chance to burn an opponent that hits your monster with a move that makes direct contact. However, if you have a Pokemon with Flame Body in your party alongside any Pokemon Eggs, your baby Pokemon will hatch twice as fast. This makes Pokemon breeding a breeze, especially when combined with an Egg Power sandwich.
While there are many Pokemon that can learn the Flame Body ability, only a handful of them are available in Scarlet & Violet. That said, if you want to quickly acquire a Pokemon that knows Flame Body, there are a few key winners to look for.
The easiest Pokemon to get with Flame Body
Fletchinder and Talonflame are your fastest tickets to get Flame Body. Though Fletchling won’t know Flame Body natively, both its evolutionary forms will by default. Even if you don’t take the time to evolve Fletchling, Fletchinder is incredibly common. There’s a good chance you’ll stumble upon it by default!
Though they are rarer, you can also use Larvesta and Volcarona. Like Fletchinder, both forms of this Pokemon will know the Flame Body ability by default. Keep in mind that if any of these Pokemon know their Hidden Ability, they will not know Flame Body. This would only have a chance of happening if you acquired these Pokemon via 6-Star Tera Raids, so you likely don’t have to worry about this specific possibility. Still, it’s worth noting in case you’re wondering why your Pokemon Eggs are taking longer than you’d expect to hatch.
Other Pokemon with Flame Body
If the above Pokemon just aren’t your style, Carkol and Coalossal both are capable of learning Flame Body. That said, these Pokemon may also know the ability Steam Engine, so they aren’t reliable compared to the above monsters. Still, if you’re searching for a Flame Body user in your storage, they might do the trick.
The last potential Flame Body user is… not recommended, to be honest. Charcadet can learn Flame Body as a hidden ability, so you won’t find one who knows this in the wild. Teaching this ability to Charcadet requires specific Pokemon Breeding or using a valuable Ability Patch, both of which are way too time intensive to be worthwhile. Additionally, Charcadet will lose this ability when it evolves. You’re better off seeking any of the above Pokemon, but the option is there.
Pokemon with Flame Body in The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero Part 1: The Teal Mask DLC
As of the release of The Teal Mask DLC in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, trainers have access to two more evolutionary lines with the Flame Body ability. Slugma and its evolved form Magcargo can both potentially learn Flame Body as an ability, though they may wind up with the Magma Armor ability instead. Similarly, Litwick, Lampent, and Chandelure all have the capacity to learn Flame Body.
All these monsters are in the same boat as Carkol and Coalossal in that they aren’t guaranteed to learn Flame Body. Fletchinder or Talonflame are still your best bets for gaining access to it. However, if you’re playing the DLC content and happen to have these monsters in your reserves, they might do the trick for you.
We still have one more DLC pack to go, which could potentially contain more Pokemon with the Flame Body ability. We’ll keep you posted as we learn more.
