Yesterday, an EyeToy designer told gamesindustry.biz that developers (Zoe Mode) for You’re in the Movies are using “technical elements that are not reliable” and that Microsoft has done a particularly poor job supporting its Xbox Live Vision Camera. Today, Zoe Mode’s executive producer Paul Mottram fired back by saying that the studio is pushing camera technology forward.

Certainly background segmentation is a non trivial task but feel we should embrace the challenge in order to move camera gaming forward. As with other camera games, there is an element of user set-up required to ensure the technology works robustly but this is a small price to pay for the advantages background segmentation provides.

I like challenge embracement, I just wish this were with a different game. I really don’t think the crowd that is rushing out to buy You’re in the Movies is particularly interested in the game even working. They just really like Burt Reynolds or running from pretend dinosaurs.
