Respawn Entertainment has been investigating a security exploit in the Titanfall 2Ā community that quickly picked up steam. Users yesterday were warning that a new exploit could open dangerous vulnerabilities in players’ computers, but the studio is quelling those concerns.

The kickoff happened when a Discord post from user DirectXeon started to spread around social media, saying “Titanfall 2Ā is currently considered compromised.” The post warned users to refrain from launching the game and uninstall it, as reports of a bug in the game that allowed “local code execution” were coming in.

Respawn posted yesterday evening that it was aware of reports of a security vulnerability affectingĀ Titanfall 2Ā and were investigating. Later on in the day, it issued an update:

“An Update: Weā€™re still investigating this issue but our engineers believe that weā€™re dealing with a simple exploit that can be used to crash games.Ā  We do not believe there are any more serious risks to affected players or their machines.”

This isn’t the first timeĀ Titanfall 2Ā has run into some issues. Earlier this year, Apex LegendsĀ was shut down by hackers campaigning to “save”Ā Titanfall, which ended up apparently being a scheme involving the resurrection ofĀ Titanfall Online. It was wild stuff, and you can find a summary of it here.

TitanfallĀ fans have tried to draw notice to issues the games have had over the years. Though it sounds like the issue may hopefully be less severe than first thought, it’s still a rough time for a game that some still hold dear to their hearts. We’ll keep an eye out for more updates as Respawn works on this Titanfall 2 exploit.
