Or you can go in blind
It feels like forever in terms of how long we waited for any information onĀ Shin Megami Tensei V at all, and now Atlus is delivering. We got a good look at the game at E3 (amid some pre-order bonus previews), and now it’s time for a Shin Megami Tensei V story trailer.
There’s no wacky or overbearing English narration here: it’s all in Japanese, via the official Atlus West YouTube channel. It’s kind of an all-encompassing look at the game. There’s story cutscenes, some narrative framework details (but not too much), and gameplay. Speaking of vague, I love the official synopsis for the concept of the Shin Megami Tensei V storyĀ on the eShop landing site:
“The ambitions of god and human clash amidst the horror of a dying world. Neither human nor demon, the newly-forged Nahobino and his friends must decide what is worth saving… and prepare to sacrifice everything in its name. In a world without its Creator, which path will you choose?”
Possibly the best part of the trailer though? The soundtrack. Atlus games are often “buy the CD” worthy, and this one looks like it’s going to be another one to add to the pile. Haunting, yet beautiful. It kind of sums up a lot of Atlus RPGs as a whole.
I’m still in awe that this thing is slated for a November release, given that the last time we saw SMT was back in 2013 on 3DS. That system and the game launch itself, feels so far away.
