The devastating ‘Nuke’ scorestreak returns in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War

Gen. Ripper has exceeded his authority

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War aficionados have a new reason to fear online’s finest, (or at least biggest cheating), players. The famously devastating “Nuke” scorestreak has returned, now available to launch in all of Black Ops Cold War‘s multiplayer modes. This Black Ops Cold War appearance is the first time the Nuke scorestreak has been deployed in a Treyarch Call of Duty title.

The maniacs finally went and did it. Here’s the scorestreak in action, courtesy of YouTuber Xanzyi:

While the scorestreak needs no introduction, here’s one for Call of Duty newcomers. Debuting in 2009’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, the “Tactical Nuke” is a weapon afforded to any player who racks up 30 kills without dying. Once deployed, the terrifying weapon brings about the ominous wail of air raid sirens, before levelling the entire playing field and immediately ending the game for all players on both teams. The Tactical Nuke would return in several other Call of Duty titles, but given the difficulty in obtaining the K/D scorestreak, it was a rare sight in battle.

In Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, the Nuke scorestreak has undergone a bit of tweaking. While it retains the K/D qualifier, and will still wipe out all players on both teams (including the launcher) the Nuke will no longer end the game, merely resetting all players to their respective spawn points before continuing the action. Even in this capacity, the nuke scorestreak remains a tactical wildcard, breaking up the flow, planning, and strategy of everyone in the playing area. It could help reset modes such as Hardpoint for the losing side, but it’s still a helluva cat to drop among the pigeons.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has just launched its Season 4 Reloaded event, bringing with it new Zombies mode “Mauer der Toten”, a new operator in the form of Requiem C.O. Weaver, and oodles of other content. Check out our previous report on the new DLC drop right here. And keep watching the skies.
