After no Nintendo Switch Pro showing (again), Nintendo of America boss indirectly comments on the future

The Switch Pro is supposedly going to be revealed every week

I have no doubt that Nintendo is working on the successor to the Switch as we speak. Whether that’s the “Switch Pro” or a “New Switch,” or whatever is actually after the Switch, is up for debate. But it’s getting very old seeing insider info from random Twitter accounts saying that we’ll see a Switch Pro announcement just about every week. E3 2021 seemed like it was going to be the time! But it didn’t happen. For now, we wait.

Speaking to The Washington Post, Nintendo of America head Doug Bowser says we’re going to have to wait, too. While the company stated it didn’t want to address speculation on the Switch Pro directly, he did have some things to say about the future of the company in general. Bowser notes: “We are always looking at technology and how technology can enhance gameplay experiences. Itā€™s not technology for technologyā€™s sake.” He then goes on to say that technology should “specifically enhance a gameplay experience,” and it’s a question of how that tech is applied that counts.

Bowser explains: “Do you want to apply it on current existing hardware or platforms, or do you want to wait for the next platform? And then whatā€™s the right gameplay experience with that? Thereā€™s a host of factors that goes into it, and itā€™s something weā€™re always looking at.” Bowser then goes on to talk about all of the games announced at E3.

To be frank, while a Pro would be neat, I do like that Nintendo chose to just focus on the games this year. While E3 2021 wasn’t the most riveting event, it’s nice to not have to worry about jamming refresh buttons to try and get new hardware in a mad rush to beat bots. There’s plenty of opportunities to do that for amiibo shopping. What year is it?! 2015?
