‘The highest selling digital release on the PlayStation platform in Square Enix history’
Success is relative, and amid Animal Crossing: New Horizons selling over 22 million copies in just a few months, Square Enix seems immensely proud of the fact that Final Fantasy VII Remake “shipped and digitally sold” five million copies worldwide since its April 10, 2020 launch.
Taking to Twitter to share the news, the company says that this is “the highest selling digital release on the PlayStation platform in Square Enix history.” By comparison, the last major Final Fantasy release, Final Fantasy XV, “shipped and digitally sold” (Square Enix likes to use this phrasing a lot) five million copies in 24 hours across its two launch consoles: PS4 and Xbox One.
Of course, these numbers could get a boost once Final Fantasy VII Remake hits other platforms. Also, more “parts” are coming, so in a very slithery way, Square Enix will probably add up how each part sold into some grand total tweet…years from now.
Man I wonder when this whole project will be fully, actually done? Like, “all the DLC in the bag” done? In a decade?
