[Update: Just kidding, Respawn killed him off and it looks like Revenant is the actual Season 4 Legend instead.]

Apex Legends continues to truck on as it approaches its one year release anniversary. It might not have the major cachet it once did (around launch it was common to see it as the most popular game on Twitch, now it struggles to break the top 10), but EA says that it’s still very popular, so it’ll be supported for the foreseeable future. That includes the new Season 4 update.

Arriving on February 4, it’ll bring new legend (hero/character) Forge into the mix, who is described as “confident yet humble,” utilizing “heavy-duty shatter gauntlets” to beat people to a pulp. Naturally the new season will also sport a new battle (season) pass, as well as throw a new weapon into the mix (the bolt-action Sentinel sniper) and the third Ranked series.

That latter bit is easily the most important, as the entire ranked system is getting overhauled. Now you’ll have two more pronounced splits, with one running from February 3 through March 23 on World’s Edge, with March 24 and May 5 focusing on the classic Kings Canyon map. According to Respawn, “ranked rewards will be granted for the highest tier achieved in either split of the series, but exclusive animated badges will be granted if you can make it to the same tier both splits.”

A new tier between Diamond and Apex Predator (the top rank) called Master tier is being added, you can only party with players who are a single tier different in rank, and loss forgiveness (rank penalties) will be limited to once per day. I have enough games I play competitively with, so I’m mostly still playing Apex for the legends. This one I’m not so sure about, but he does have a WWE Championship Belt.
