Coming in ‘2020’
Sports anime is one of my favorite subgenres: Princess Nine, Hajime no Ippo, you name it, I’ve probably watched it. That’s why I’m excited for the localization of another upcoming Captain Tsubasa game, which is based on the nearly 40-year old manga.
Handled by Bandai Namco it’ll feature “story, versus and online versus modes” (all you need!) and will get a full localization for the west. Note that there is no English dub: it’s Japanese voiceovers with subtitles only (all good!). If you couldn’t tell based on the image above, this one is very flashy and not at all like your traditional FIFA entry.
Even if you’re not into sports games this one might entice you, as the trailer is action-packed with Capcom Versus Fighter-like supers, plenty of combat clashing and regular old anime intensity. It high key rules and I can’t wait to try it out later this year.
It’ll launch on PC, PS4 and Switch “in 2020.”
