A video has surfaced on the internet (courtesy of Mr. Alucard) which implies some classic stages are set to return in NetherRealm’s fist-flying fighter Mortal Kombat 11. The video features soundbites of each of MK 11′s selectable announcers referencing Dead Pool and The Soul Chamber.

Dead Pool (one of my favourite MK stages thanks to its ominous theme) made its debut in Mortal Kombat II, and features a thin platform raised above a vat of toxic liquid. At the end of a fight, players could knock their hapless opponent into the green goo, resulting in a skeleton rising to the surface. Gruesome. Soul Chamber is a stage from Mortal Kombat 3, and features a huge, demonic looking head and a spiral of stolen souls wind their way up through its mouth. Both stages also appeared in 2011’s Mortal Kombat.

While the addition of these stages is mere speculation – after all these soundbites could have been recorded “just in case” they were needed down the line – both locales would be welcome. Especially Dead Pool, given that MK 11 currently lacks stage fatalities, which are very notable by their absence. Interestingly, one of the announcers appearing in this clip is Raiden, which suggests the Thunder God’s dulcet tones will be added to MK 11 in future.

Mortal Kombat 11 is available now on PS4, PC, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
