As noted exclusively by The Hollywood Reporter, New Line are continuing to build the roster for their upcoming Mortal Kombat movie, currently in pre-production for a 2021 release.

Joining the already-announced Joe Taslim, who will be donning the mantle of Sub-Zero, are Supergirl’s James Olson, Mehcad Brooks, as uber-tough guy Jax and newcomer Sisi Stringer as femme fatale Mileena. Two of the MK universe’ most notable roles, Thunder God Raiden and the chosen one himself, Liu Kang, will be portrayed respectively by Tadanobu Asano – best known as Hogun in Marvel’s Thor movies – and Ludi Lin, who was the Black Ranger in 2017’s Power Rangers and Murk in 2018’s Aquaman.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, New Line is pushing for a huge, eclectic cast of international stars, taken from TV, cinema and martial arts. Mortal Kombat will begin shooting in Australia later this year, directed by Simon McQuaid and penned by Greg Russo. Musetta Vander is still working and still looks every bit the Queen of Edenia, so I’m hoping she’ll be getting a phone call real soon. Make it happen, New Line.
