Atlus continues to re-introduce to the good guys and gals of The Phantom Thieves, as the publisher continues to build the hype for the upcoming Persona 5 Royal. This weekend saw the return of one of the most popular ladies from the hit 2017 RPG, Makoto Niijima.

Makoto Niijima is the star student and school council president at Shujin Academy. Despite these accolades, Niijima is an unpopular girl, seen as arrogant and aloof, while turning a blind eye to the faculty’s misdeeds. At first assigned to investigate Phantom Thief-related activity within the school, the headstrong girl winds up in deep trouble, turning to the thieves for help and ultimately unleashing her rebellious, high-kicking alter-ego, Queen.

In the aftermath of this event, Makoto becomes a vital component of the thieves’ makeup. A master strategist, moral center and strict “mother” to the rest of the team’s often immature antics, it is Makoto’s admission to The Phantom Thieves that steps up their activity to the next level, while simultaneously raising the stakes for all involved.

In the new trailer, we get to see Makoto and Joker hanging out at a new aquarium location, while the former rocks her new winter ensemble. We also see an encounter with her older sister (and actual best character) Sae Niijima, as well as her new team up move with Ryuji Sakamoto.

Stay tuned to the end for a fun moment revealing Makoto’s surprising sporting prowess.

Persona 5 Royal launches in Japan on PS4 October 31, before heading west sometime in 2020.
