Buy ’em up, boys
So this happened.
Back in October Microsoft was allegedly in talks to acquire Obsidian Entertainment, purveyor of the best modern Fallout in New Vegas (we have proof) and more recently, the Pillars of Eternity series. Well, they’re part of the Microsoft family today, as announced during the X018 stream.
As a reminder Obsidian was founded in 2003 and has been pumping out recognizable RPGs ever since. Out of all of the acquisitions Microsoft has announced in 2018, Obsidian is probably the most consistent of them all and could legitimately help them in both the Xbox One and PC realms. Like they’ve been espousing all along, Obsidian will allegedly be allowed to operate autonomously through this agreement.
Microsoft says that there are now “13 distinct and diverse game development teams” at the company.
