Bethesda will ‘look into’ adding Push-to-Talk to Fallout 76

Don’t hold your breath

There’s going to be one final play session for the Fallout 76 beta, but after tomorrow, Bethesda will pack everything up until the game properly launches on November 14. Given the drastic shift to a multiplayer-centric design, the developers have plenty of feedback to take into consideration.

In a note thanking players for participating in the beta, Bethesda responded to some of the common concerns surrounding Fallout 76. The big-ticket item, at least for me, is the lack of a Push-to-Talk feature. I couldn’t even make it past the character creator without hearing someone cough up a lung.

Bethesda pushed back a bit, explaining that its “goal with voice chat being on by default is to highlight that the world is alive with real people, other players like you.” There’s no Push-to-Talk in a misguided attempt to encourage “player interaction,” but the developers “will look into adding this in the future.”

The team also spoke about another big talking point: Fallout 76‘s locked-out FOV slider. “We haven’t supported FOV sliders in our previous games as it is known to break a lot of animations and causes a lot of clipping to occur onscreen. You do have the option to zoom out in third person on PC by holding View and moving the mousewheel, but we won’t be able to have it for first-person view.”

As for other outstanding issues, Bethesda has pledged 21:9 ultra-wide support post-launch, fixes for “many exploits” in a future update, and an eventual increase to the 400 weight limit for player stashes. There are also plans to squash a bug that causes never-ending hunger and put an end to those random gunshots and “loud sounds around Appalachia.” That’s all coming sometime after launch.
