A new update for Pokémon Go is out and with it come changes that arguably make the game both better and worse.

Here is the full changelog:

  • Avatars can now be re-customized from the Trainer profile screen
  • Adjusted battle move damage values for some Pokémon
  • Refined certain Gym animations
  • Improved memory issues
  • Removed footprints of nearby Pokémon
  • Modified battle damage calculation
  • Various bug fixes during wild Pokémon encounter
  • Updated Pokémon details screen
  • Updated achievement medal images
  • Fixed issues with displaying certain map features
  • Minor text fixes
  • Added a warning about playing in dangerous areas
  • Removed battery saver mode from iOS version

I’m sure most iOS players like myself understand why they removed the battery saving mode, because basically every other time you used it the screen would just outright stop responding till you restarted the app.

Why they removed footprints of nearby is beyond me, though I hear that it had been stuck at three for weeks to reduce server load, but who knows if that is official since Niantic has shit communication skills

A full-screen box now instructs players “Do not enter dangerous areas while playing Pokémon Go” upon starting the game, though without a definition of what a dangerous area is, how am I supposed to know!? Should I walk down dark alleys in my local ghetto at night alone, or does Niantic mean I shouldn’t play in my local BDSM club? I guess I’ll just have to try both and find out how things work out.

Otherwise, all the other changes seem welcome with various fixes and nerfing some OP moves like Vaporeon’s Watergun, which should shake up the meta a bit. Plus now you can change your gender and clothes whenever you want. Hopefully, the game freezes less now, only time will tell.
