Yoji Shinkawa’s art is immediately recognizable. When Square Enix’s upcoming shooter Left Alive was announced, one of my first thoughts was how familiar — and beautiful — its promotional art was. Shinkawa’s illustrations have graced Metal Gear Solid covers and promotional pieces throughout the series, and many associate his distinct style with those games.

His work has been available in collected volumes in Japanese for a while, but Dark Horse Comics is bringing it to English-speaking audiences in a two-book set titled The Art of Metal Gear Solid I-IV.

This collection will include 800 pages of concept and key art for characters, vehicles, and weapons from Metal Gear SolidMetal Gear Solid 2: Sons of LibertyMetal Gear Solid 3: Snake EaterMetal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. It should make a good companion piece for The Art of Metal Gear Solid V, which Dark Horse published last winter.

The hardcover set is up for preorder on Amazon for $79.99 and is expected to hit store shelves on May 8, 2018. You can take a look at the gorgeous cover art below.
